So I sort of have some good news and bad news.
The good news is that I was selected as a finalist for a competition that could fund a project for my neighborhood. I have to spend the next 2 weeks promoting it and then (assuming I am awarded funding) I have to start the project and get it rolling. This will likely take a few more weeks.
Unfortunately, this coincides with the scheduled start date for the Cluetrails game. I only have so much free time and I cannot do both projects. Since the competition has a strict timeline, I need focus on that right now.
So the bad news is that I have to put the Cluetrails game on hold for a little while. The money has been reclaimed for safe-keeping and I will let you know as soon as I am able to start the game again.
In the meantime, please convince your friends to sign up on this site!
Thank you and I apologize for the inconvenience.

Spread the Word!
It may seem counter-intuitive to tell your friends about this game, but in fact it's in your best interest! Without enough people showing interest, my sponsors will leave and I'll be forced to reclaim the prize. The game will then be put on hold until enough people sign up. I really don't want to do that...
At the opposite end of the spectrum is another scenario. If I get enough participants, I will be able to find more sponsors which in turn will lead to more games! I can hide treasures in other cities or hide multiple treasures in the same city (depending on participants and sponsors.)
So there you have it. Please tell your friends, family, co-workers, neighbors (etc.) to check out my blog and click the "Join this site" button. Besides, you're probably smarter than everyone else and will be able to find the treasure first anyway :)

FAQ
I've gotten some emails and realized that I should provided a little more information. Here are some of the questions I've received along with a few that I anticipate being asked:
How do I sign up?
On the right side of the page, in the Prize Hunters section, is a little blue button that says "Join this site." You will be asked to sign in using a Google account. Once you're signed in, you will be asked if you want to follow this blog. Say yes!
How often are clues posted?
I will post clues twice per week, typically on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
How long will it take to find the prize?
That will depend on how well the players can put the clues together. As long as no one has found the prize, the game will continue. If I were to guess (and it's a guess) I'd say around one month but it could be more or less than that.
What will the clues be like?
The clues can be anything! This includes (but is not limited to) pictures, puzzles, coordinates, riddles, cryptograms, etc.
Can I solve the clues from my computer?
Some of the clues may be solved simply by looking them up on the internet. Other clues will require that you go someplace. Typically, the more difficult the clue and the more effort required, the more information it will provide.
What if I miss a clue? Can I still find the prize?
All of the clues will remain on the blog, but some of them might be time-sensitive. It may be easier to find the prize if you have all of the clues, but if you miss one, you're not out of luck...you never know who else is playing and how many clues they have missed!
Who can play?
That's simple...anyone! There are no restrictions on age or anything else.
How do I know if the prize is still there?
I have asked everyone who plays to let me know if they have found the prize. I also will have the location checked periodically to ensure that the prize is safe
Is this for real?
Yes, it's for real...and it really is free. The prize has been sponsored by businesses in Raleigh who must remain anonymous at this point because the game hasn't started yet! You wouldn't want me to give away any clues early, would you?
How do I host or sponsor a clue?
If you are a local business who would like to participate by hosting a clue at your location or sponsoring a clue on the website, please send me an email: cluetrail@gmail.com

The first prize has been hidden!
Somewhere in Raleigh North Carolina, I have hidden a container with a
$100 bill inside. Follow my blog for clues that will lead you to discover what the container looks like and where it is hidden. If you are the first one to find it, you get to keep the prize!
It's free to play. I just ask you to do these three things:
1. Subscribe to my blog. (You wouldn't want to miss any clues!)
2. Do not post any answers to clues or misleading information.
3. Let me know if you are the lucky one to find the prize first so the game can end and a new one can begin!
Check back often for updates!
The first game is scheduled to begin on August 15th, 2012.
